LoRa is a network protocol that allows long-range transmissions with low power consumption. Compared to WiFi, LoRa has a lower data rate with a greater covering of range. LoRa provides long-range communications for up to 5 km in urban areas and up to 15 km or more in rural areas. Because of the low power requirements, LoRa-based solutions connecting battery-operated devices and sensors can last for up to 10 years.
By installing light sensors on street lamps, we monitor the condition of the street lamps and transmit corresponding signals to a network server through a LoRaWAN gateway.
